Abstract

Obesity has become a serious problem in these days as it gives rise to any disease. Also it has become very difficult to overcome this problem. There is no medicine available for this problem. Yoga practice can be a better solution to this problem.
Our objective was to see the effect of selected Yogic practices on obese persons to reduce the body weight within 20 days.
I had designed a special course named as S.S.S. (Slim & Smart Sadhana) to overcome the problem of obesity. We had trained many Yoga Teachers from different cities in Maharashtra to teach this S.S.S. Programme. This programme was executed in 12 different cities in Maharashtra at 32 different places in those cities. The total no. of participants was 800 who had undergone the training of S.S.S. for the period of 3 weeks (One and half hours a day.) The weights were measured before and after the study.
It was observed that weight was reduced for every participant and the average reduction in weight was 3.6 kgs during three weeks of training. The maximum reduction in weight was 8.0 kgs. This reduction was found to be statistically significant. (Using pair t test).
Above results had proved that selected Yogic practices (S.S.S. Programme) if practiced under proper guidance can reduce the body weight considerably within a period of three weeks.
